Last year Symantec has made a bold move – the software developer united nine different consumer products into one comprehensive cross-platform antivirus protection for multiple devices. This year software division was partially returned. Norton Security Deluxe is a middle ground among the three products offered. As always, the antivirus strikes in different ways.
Those rare users who need protection only for one device may purchase one license of Norton Security Standard. Basic version features are identical to the Norton Security Deluxe, the only difference is licensing. It is more reasonable to pay another $10 to have the opportunity to add new devices later. Norton Security Premium offers protection for 10 devices, 25 gigabytes of cloud storage for backup and premium subscriptions for the system of parental control by Symantec.
Norton developers are not adherents of simple tests for static detection of malware samples. They believe that the results of such tests are not relevant at the time when new
malicious programs appear every second and when one of the criteria for detection is a network virus, from which the threat came. Symantec does not participate in such tests as Virus Bulletin or ICSA Labs.
West Coast Labs has certified Symantec technology for the detection of viruses and threats cleaning.
The evaluation test in AV-Test based on three criteria showed that Norton earned a maximum of 6 points for malware protection. In particular the product achieved 100% level of detection at countering 20000 malicious samples. A number of false alarms lower evaluation for ease of use to 5.5. As for the performance Norton antivirus software has earned 5 points. The final result of 16.5 points can be considered as very good.
